Customisation options

Built your way.

There are many design choices in a custom gravel bike, many of them not being right or wrong but an optimization and a reflection of what you value most.

Head angle. Slacker is calmer on loose descents; steeper steers quicker. Set for your terrain.

Geometry.

Tailored to you, for maximum comfort and efficiency. Tap the dots to see what gets tuned, then flip the frame between its two characters.

Loaded changes everything. Twelve kilos of bags changes how a bike handles. A frame designed for the loaded case stays stable where an off-the-shelf race frame gets nervous.

Your numbers come from a bike fit (best), your current bike, or your measurements.

Fast gravel and hardpack, big days at speed.

Tyre clearance.

From 700×40 to 27.5/29×2.6. The frame is built around the rubber your riding wants.

Capability & comfort

Counterintuitive but true: on rough ground, the bigger tyre is often the quicker one.

Two bikes in one frame. Generous clearance means the same bike runs 700c for speed and 650b with fat rubber for adventure.

Cable routing.

Three ways to run the cables through the same frame, from easiest to fix on a fire trail, to the cleanest possible lines.

Auren on the trails

Meet Auren gravel adventures.

Real riders, real builds. Here's where one Auren gravel bike has ended up.

KIRSTEN'S TOURING RIG
Kirsten's long-range touring build

A bike to explore Australia,
and beyond.

Kirsten came to us looking for a forever bike, something dependable enough for long, remote touring with no moving parts left exposed to the weather. We built her a titanium frame around a Pinion gearbox and belt drive, set up for the distances she had in mind.

“I have finally found my forever bike; a custom built titanium frame with Pinion gearing and electronic shifters. Will at Auren Bikes spent time, answered questions and listened to my needs and delivered in every way at the end.”

From first call to first ride

Four steps. Four months.

1

Discovery conversation.

We learn about you and your dream ride. You get a pre-quote and an initial spec.

2

Geometry session.

A jig-based bike fit that sets reach, stack and angles around your body and the way you ride.

3

Frame & parts build.

The titanium frame is built to spec while your chosen parts are sourced and delivered.

4

Assembly and delivery.

Will assembles, runs final checks, and delivers. Four months on, you're riding it.

It starts with a conversation.

No obligation, just a convo about what you'd want in a custom bike.

Common questions

Common gravel build questions, answered.

The bike and the build

It doesn't rust, it doesn't crack the way carbon can after a knock, and it rides with a bit of give that takes the edge off rough ground. For a bike you'll load up and take somewhere remote, that combination of durability and comfort is hard to beat. It also looks the same in ten years as it does on day one.

No. Most people come in with a sense of where they ride and what they're chasing, not a parts list. Will walks you through every decision with a recommendation and a reason, from geometry to bottom bracket. You leave the conversation knowing more than when you started.

It's a sealed gearbox at the centre of the bike that replaces the derailleur. All the moving parts sit inside, protected from mud, grit and water, so there's nothing hanging off the back to bend or wear out on a remote track. Paired with a belt drive, it's about as low-maintenance as a drivetrain gets, which is why it suits long, unsupported trips.

To a point, yes. Generous tyre clearance means one frame can run fast 700c rubber for quick days and fat 650b tyres for rougher, loaded riding. Geometry is the trade-off worth talking through: a frame tuned for the loaded case stays calm under bags where a race frame gets nervous. Will helps you find the point on that spectrum that matches how you actually ride.

From a jig-based bike fit in the second step of the process, which sets your reach, stack and angles around your body and your riding style. If you can't get to the workshop, we can work from a recent professional fit or careful measurements off your current bike. The fit is the foundation everything else is built on.

Often, yes. Wheels, groupsets and finishing kit can frequently carry over if they're in good condition and suit the new build. It's worth raising on the first call so Will can tell you what transfers cleanly and what's worth upgrading while you're at it.

Yes. Names, coordinates, or a meaningful emblem can be sandblasted or engraved directly into the titanium, permanent without paint. Finishes run from raw brushed through to fully painted in any colour. Bring the idea to the first call and we'll work out how to do it.

Process, time and cost

About four months from the first call to your first ride. That covers the discovery conversation, the geometry session, the frame build and parts sourcing, then final assembly and delivery. Titanium framebuilding and quality parts both take time, and the result is meant to last decades.

It depends on the build. Geometry, drivetrain, wheels and finishing all move the final number. The first call includes a pre-quote based on what you're after, so you'll know roughly where your spec lands before committing to anything. Will is upfront about cost at every step.

None. The consultation is free, there's no deposit to have the conversation, and you leave with a quote and a clear picture of what the build involves. If it's right for you, you proceed. If it's not, you don't.

It's more involved than buying off the shelf, but it isn't complicated. Will runs through each decision in order with a recommendation for each one, so you're never guessing. Most riders find it straightforward once they're in it.

No. Will builds and assembles in the Melbourne workshop and delivers from there. The geometry session is easiest in person, but remote fits are common, and we work with riders around the country.

After you own it

The titanium frame and any Auren-made components carry a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, for the original owner, for as long as you own the frame. Third-party parts like Pinion, SRAM and DT Swiss are covered by their own manufacturer warranties, and we'll help you navigate any claim.

The frame itself needs almost none, no rust prevention, no repainting, no coating. The drivetrain, brakes and wheels need the same care as any quality bike, and a Pinion-and-belt build keeps even that to a minimum. Outside Melbourne, the bike services at any competent bike shop, since nothing about it is proprietary.

Book a free consultation through the site, or email Will at info@aurenbikes.com.au. The first call runs 30 minutes to an hour and sets up everything that follows.
