Assembly takes about 20 minutes. The first charge takes 2 hours.
This page covers everything you need to know to get started.
The bike arrives with major assembly completed. Four parts need to be fitted.
The EV5 ships in a large carton. Inside, the frame, motor, battery, brakes, mudguards, and drivetrain are already assembled.

The one adjustment that makes a significant difference to how the bike rides.
Correct seat height means your leg has a slight bend at the bottom of the pedal stroke — not fully extended, not cramped. A saddle that's too low puts unnecessary strain on your knees. Too high and you'll rock side to side to reach the pedals.
Stand next to the bike. Set the saddle to hip height. Sit on the bike and pedal — your heel should just reach the pedal at the bottom of the stroke. When you pedal with the ball of your foot, you'll have the right amount of bend in your knee.
Loosen the seatpost clamp with an Allen key or pull the lever if quick release. Slide the seatpost to the correct height. Retighten — firm enough that the saddle doesn't twist or drop under load, but don't overtighten — it should be 5Nm, or hand firm.
The bike ships with partial charge. A full charge before the first ride is good practice.
Connect the 36V 4A charger (included in the box) to the charge port on the frame. Then plug the charger into any standard Australian outlet. The indicator light on the charger will show red while charging.
A full charge takes roughly 2 hours from flat. The charger indicator turns green when complete. Built-in overcharge protection means there's no risk of damage from leaving it plugged in overnight.
Disconnect the charger from the bike before the port cap. Store the charger somewhere dry. You're ready to go.
Pedal-assist only. No throttle. The gears are automatic.
The EV5's motor activates when you pedal and cuts out when you stop. There is no throttle — the motor only works while you're pedalling. This is a legal requirement for pedal-assist eBikes in Australia and also how the EV5 is designed to feel: like a stronger version of you, not a scooter.
The Ananda R900 handles gear selection automatically. The system reads your speed and the gradient and picks the correct gear without any input from you. Your only job is pedalling. You may sometimes hear a click come from the motor as it changes gear under load — this is normal and part of the way it works.
Press and hold the power button. The display shows your current speed, battery percentage, and assist level.
Use the up and down buttons to toggle between assist levels. Higher assist means more motor support and more battery draw. Eco mode extends range significantly. The right level depends on your ride.
The motor engages within the first pedal stroke. You'll feel the assist kick in smoothly — not a surge, just a gentle push that grows with your effort. The gears will handle themselves from here.
| Level | What it does |
|---|---|
| Eco | Light assist. Extends battery range significantly. Good for flat routes and longer rides where range matters. |
| Sport | Balanced assist for everyday commuting. The level most riders use day-to-day. |
| Boost | Full motor support. Useful for hills, headwinds, or when you're late. Uses battery faster. |
| Off | No motor assist. The EV5 rides as a regular bike. Still rideable — you're carrying the extra weight of the motor and battery, but it's manageable. |
