Have a question before you buy?
TRP's brake-shift levers put hydraulic braking and Smart.Shift button actuation in one drop-bar hood, so the cockpit feels like a normal road/gravel groupset — no separate shifter bolted on, no compromise on hand position. It's the piece that makes a gearbox genuinely work on a drop-bar bike.
Hydraulic disc calipers matched to the lever, giving consistent, low-maintenance braking to go with the low-maintenance drivetrain — a fitting pairing for a gravel or adventure build that's meant to be ridden hard with minimal fuss.
The same button-actuated, battery-powered shifting as the trigger-shift version — more than 20,000 shifts or roughly 100 riding hours per charge, driving the same 600% range across 12 evenly-spaced gears sealed inside the gearbox at the bottom bracket.
This gearbox and lever set is built into Auren’s Pinion frameset platform — if you’re fitting it to a different drop-bar frame, confirm Pinion shell and brake mount compatibility with Will before ordering.
Tools needed: Pinion-specific service tools for internal gearbox work, standard hex/torx keys for lever and caliper mounting, hydraulic brake bleed kit if servicing brakes later. Gearbox fitting, TRP lever/caliper installation, and electronic setup is best done by Auren or a Pinion-experienced mechanic.
Confirm your frame has a Pinion shell and drop-bar-compatible brake mounts matched to this set.
Fit the gearbox into the frame's Pinion shell per Pinion's mounting instructions.
Install the TRP brake-shift levers on the drop bar and set up hood position and reach to suit the rider.
Fit the TRP FM calipers, connect hydraulic lines, and bleed the brakes.
Pair the Smart.Shift battery and confirm electronic shifting indexes cleanly through all 12 gears from the lever.
Set up chain or belt tension per your drivetrain choice.
Check braking and shifting under load before riding, charge the Smart.Shift battery before your first ride, and note the 10,000km oil-change interval.
Pinion is a German gearbox manufacturer founded in 2010 in Denkendorf by engineers with backgrounds at Porsche and BMW. Their sealed internal gearboxes mount at the bottom bracket in place of a derailleur, giving consistent shifting regardless of chain line and low day-to-day maintenance. Auren runs one of Australia's leading Pinion build lists, offering both the mechanical C1.12 (Twist Shift) and electronic C1.12i (Smart.Shift) gearboxes, built into its titanium Pinion frameset platform. Standard Pinion warranty is 2 years from purchase; C-gearboxes can be extended to 3 years free via online registration within 12 months of purchase.
Pinion backs this product with a 2-year manufacturer warranty, honoured locally by Auren.
Auren designs and builds in Melbourne. One workshop, one builder, frames made by the person you can actually reach.
Every Auren titanium bike comes out of a simple idea. Founder and engineer Will Young wanted to build custom titanium the way it should be done: a frame shaped around the rider, not picked from a range. Your geometry, your parts, your bike, designed with you from the first conversation to the final build.
Building direct means there's no dealer between you and us. When you're planning a build, talking through your fit, or need something sorted years down the track, you talk to Will, the person who made the bike. Every Auren titanium is built to last decades and backed by real support that doesn't disappear after delivery.
That's reflected in our reviews: five stars across Google and Trustpilot.
