600% range, evenly spaced

12 gears with a consistent 24.3% step between each — a wider total range than most derailleur cassettes, with no big jumps between gears. That means a genuinely low climbing gear and a genuinely fast top gear in the same drivetrain, evenly spaced the whole way through.

Sealed gearbox, low maintenance

The entire drivetrain mechanism sits inside a sealed unit at the bottom bracket, protected from mud, dirt, and impact that a derailleur is directly exposed to. No derailleur to bend or knock out of alignment, and no exposed chain tension to maintain. Oil change interval is every 10,000km — see the Pinion 60ml Oil Change Kit.

Mechanical twist-shift

Shifting is via a twist-shift grip on the handlebar, cable-actuated — no batteries, no electronics to charge or fail. Straightforward, field-serviceable shifting for riders who'd rather not think about battery levels on a long tour.

This gearbox is built into Auren’s Pinion frameset platform — if you’re fitting it to a different frame, confirm Pinion shell compatibility with Will before ordering.

Tools needed: Pinion-specific service tools for internal work, standard hex keys for mounting and cable setup. Gearbox fitting and cable routing is best done by Auren or a Pinion-experienced mechanic.

1

Confirm your frame has a Pinion shell matched to this gearbox — Auren's Pinion frameset is built to this spec from the start.

2

Fit the gearbox into the frame's Pinion shell per Pinion's mounting instructions.

3

Install the twist-shift grip on the handlebar and route the shift cables to the gearbox.

4

Set up chain or belt tension per your drivetrain choice.

5

Adjust cable tension so the twist-shift grip indexes cleanly through all 12 gears.

6

Check shifting under load before riding, and note the 10,000km service interval for your first oil change.

Pinion is a German gearbox manufacturer founded in 2010 in Denkendorf by engineers with backgrounds at Porsche and BMW. Their sealed internal gearboxes mount at the bottom bracket in place of a derailleur, giving consistent shifting regardless of chain line and low day-to-day maintenance. Auren runs one of Australia's leading Pinion build lists, offering both the mechanical C1.12 (Twist Shift) and electronic C1.12i (Smart.Shift) gearboxes, built into its titanium Pinion frameset platform. Standard Pinion warranty is 2 years from purchase; C-gearboxes can be extended to 3 years free via online registration within 12 months of purchase.

Pinion backs this product with a 2-year manufacturer warranty, honoured locally by Auren.

Auren designs and builds in Melbourne. One workshop, one builder, frames made by the person you can actually reach.

Every Auren titanium bike comes out of a simple idea. Founder and engineer Will Young wanted to build custom titanium the way it should be done: a frame shaped around the rider, not picked from a range. Your geometry, your parts, your bike, designed with you from the first conversation to the final build.

Building direct means there's no dealer between you and us. When you're planning a build, talking through your fit, or need something sorted years down the track, you talk to Will, the person who made the bike. Every Auren titanium is built to last decades and backed by real support that doesn't disappear after delivery.

That's reflected in our reviews: five stars across Google and Trustpilot.
